Special Events & Permits

Events held on Missoula County Parks and Recreation areas may require a Special Event Permit. Examples of events that typically require a permit include weddings, competitive races, or large gatherings that restrict general public access, are publicly advertised, include food vendors, or charge a participation fee.

Not sure whether your event requires a Special Event Permit? Click here to contact County Parks staff for assistance in determining whether a permit is needed. Please note that applications must be submitted at least 30 days prior to the event. Permit fees vary based on group size and other factors.

For large gatherings on private property, please contact Missoula Public Health to determine applicable permitting requirements.

The lodge and base buildings are closed to the public and not suitable for private events. Missoula County staff are currently prioritizing legacy public events like youth programs, races and outdoor camps.

Due to extremely limited infrastructure (no indoor spaces or running water), private events like weddings are limited to very basic and analog accommodations. Please also note that due to the public ownership of the park, it is not entirely possible to close the area to non-attendees.
