Missoula County will host four public open house meetings this month to share information and gather questions about the ongoing floodplain mapping update for the Clark Fork River, Bitterroot River and Rock Creek.
The County is working with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC) to update the maps, which are intended to provide more reliable and detailed information about areas prone to flooding.
Affected residents along the Clark Fork River, Rock Creek and Bitterroot River within Missoula County are encouraged to attend one of the following open house events to learn more about what the floodplain changes could mean for their property.
Each event will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. There will be no formal presentation; residents may stop by anytime during those hours.
Participants can explore topic-focused stations with staff available to answer questions.
The County is mailing postcards about the open houses to affected residents in Missoula County outside Missoula city limits.
In addition to the open houses, Missoula County will offer both virtual and in-person office hours, and walk-in appointments are also available. Dates and times are available on the project page on missoulacountyvoice.com.
Residents can view the floodplain maps and learn more about anticipated changes at missoula.co/floodplain. The website also includes details about meetings, office hours and next steps in the mapping process.
