What to do if you're injured at work (even if you think it's not a big deal)
- Report all incidents and injuries to a supervisor. All workplace injuries must be reported to a direct supervisor or manager, or directly to the Missoula County Human Resources (HR) department within 30 days of the injury occurrence. Report an occupational disease that has developed over time no later than 12 months after which you know or believe it is a work-related condition.
- Complete a Notice of Injury (NOI) form. This internal incident form should be submitted even if no medical treatment is needed or if you are not missing work. Your employer can assist you with completing this form. Return to your HR department.
- If you are seeking medical attention or wage loss benefits, you must also complete a First Report of Injury (FROI) which is a claim for workers’ compensation.
- Seek medical attention, if necessary. If you need medical attention urgently, please get the care necessary.* You may visit the facility of your choosing (urgent care, ER, etc) for your first visit. If you are unable to speak to the Work Comp Coordinator prior to receiving medical care, do so as soon as possible after.
- Contact the Missoula County Workers’ Compensation Coordinator for assistance with the claims process.
*Please note that a report of an injury or receipt of a claim number does not constitute acceptance of a claim or payment of medical bills. Claim investigation may take up to 30 days.
